Day 97. Pears.

A fruit often forgotten by me, every time I bite into a pear I have a moment. I really do. I think about how lucky we are to have nature provide us with these big, juicy jewels with such unique flavor and crisp. You just know it was on that tree in Eden. The fruit makes me fruity.

One of the best sandwiches I ever ate was a pear and brie panini. Some of the most beautiful desserts I've seen have been pear tarts and the like. Alas, I have never really had a dessert of pears soaked in butter and brown sugar. Someday. Maybe I'll attempt a modified version this summer, with raw sugar and cashew butter.

So if, like me, you seldom have a pear, swap some of those oh-so-pedestrian apples you always pick up at the store for a Bartlett or an Anjou. And enjoy.
