Day 95. Asparagus.

Not just a lovable character from T S Eliot's Cats, (don't judge), asparagus is one of my favorite things in adult life. Adult life because for some reason, it was one of the vegetables I decided to stay away from as a child/teenager. Oh, the follies of youth.

Roasted, grilled, steamed, a veggie substitute for eggs benedict, I haven't yet found a use I didn't like. Low in calories, high in fiber, natural diuretic and almost every vitamin and mineral you could ask for, I always feel great and satisfied sitting down to a big plateful. Pan fried with a little olive oil, garlic, pepper and lemon juice? It's like if Mozart turned his music into food and spoon-fed it to me while describing the symphony he is writing in my honor.

I haven't had white asparagus yet. It was called "white gold", "edible ivory" and "the royal vegetable". How badass is that?

But be on your guard, purple asparagus is higher in sugar and lower in fiber. No stick of licorice but if given a choice, go with the green.

And if you're worried about your pee smelling, well get your face out of the toilet bowl and you should be fine. Onto the food porn!
